Today I had the opportunity to attend a fundraiser for Growers First with my wife Tatiana. We drove down from Los Angeles to Laguna Beach. Pretty soon we found ourselves signing our nametags and meeting a bunch of strangers in a beautiful outdoor setting under a very bright sun. This was a fundraiser organized by Growers First, the organization that is also coordinating the donation of our ambulance.
Almost immediately we met Dave Day, a really engaging guy who is the founder of Growers First. Then right after that, we met Anne Apffel and Murray Johnson, the two coordinators of the Meso-America Charity Rally. We found our table and sat with them to talk about the trip.
During the fundraiser we heard about many projects that Growers First is implementing throughout Mexico and Honduras. I am hoping that we will have the chance to visit a few of these projects along our route.
Here is a picture of, from left to right: me, Murray Johnson, Dave Day, and Anne Apffel. They are all great people!
I am really glad that my wife Tatiana had the opportunity to attend this event and learn about this great organization. She commented on the ride back home, "They are a real organization of committed people who are doing good things. They aren't just a bunch of disorganized dreamers." So she is happy that I am traveling with their support and to benefit their projects. I am too!
